July 6, 2025, Cupertino Apple has unveiled the second-generation Vision Pro headset, officially named Vision Pro 2, at its summer launch event. The new device features a 25 percent slimmer design, improved display fidelity, all-day battery support and a new AI-focused R2 coprocessor to handle real-time contextual computing.
Pre-orders begin July 9 in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Germany, with a retail launch scheduled for July 24. Pricing starts at $2,999.
What’s New in Vision Pro 2
- Redesigned optics: Dual 4K micro-OLED displays with 95 percent color accuracy
- R2 AI coprocessor: Dedicated neural chip for spatial context, object recognition and gaze prediction
- Battery life: Up to 9.5 hours on standard use, hot-swappable power packs
- Weight reduction: 380g, compared to 490g in the original model
- VisionOS 2: New interface with multi-user hand tracking and AI scene suggestions
“Vision Pro 2 brings spatial computing to the next level,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s SVP of Worldwide Marketing. “It’s faster, lighter and more aware of your world in real time.”
AI-Powered Experience
The new R2 chip works alongside Apple’s M4 processor to deliver live environment interpretation. The headset can now identify people, objects and room layouts in milliseconds and adjust the UI accordingly. Examples shown at the demo included adaptive app placement, gesture-aware shortcuts and ambient lighting optimization for comfort.
Siri also gets a spatial upgrade with multimodal awareness, responding to gestures, direction of gaze and head movement for contextual commands.
Developer and Enterprise Support
Apple announced that VisionOS 2 SDK is available today, with support for collaborative 3D environments, live document markup in space and new APIs for educational simulations. Adobe, Unity, and Zoom have already confirmed updated apps for the Vision Pro 2 ecosystem.
Enterprise use cases include remote site management, immersive training modules and 3D data visualization tools tailored to industry partners in automotive, aerospace and healthcare.
Market Expansion
Unlike the first version, which was limited to the US at launch, Apple confirmed that Vision Pro 2 will launch in 12 countries by August, including Japan, South Korea, France and Australia. Multilingual spatial UI support is built into VisionOS 2.
Conclusion
Vision Pro 2 refines Apple’s vision of spatial computing with major improvements in comfort, performance and AI integration. As Apple expands into more international markets, the new headset could help mainstream extended reality in both professional and consumer environments.
